The Makati Hope Christian School’s Physical Education Program supports its goal of providing opportunities for the physical development of students as well as in facilitating the acquisition of knowledge pertaining to good health habits and safety procedures in order to practice healthy living.

The Physical Education seeks to achieve the following objectives for the students:

1. Understand the importance of physical activities to overall health and development

2. Engage regularly and safely in appropriate physical activities

3. Develop self-awareness by discovering his physical strength and limitation

4. Develop skills in such areas as:

a. Fundamental movements
b. Gymnastics
c. Dance
d. Games
e. Athletics
f. Health and Fitness

5. Apply higher order thinking skills while engaging in individual and team sports and other physical activities

6. Develop harmonious relationship with others by exhibiting such values as fair play, sportsmanship, and teamwork.

The MHCS PE programme provides a range of activities under each area that are selected based on the nature, needs, capacities and interests of students. These physical activities are purposeful, engaging, developmentally appropriate and physically and mentally challenging.

The foci in the teaching and learning of PE vary across the different levels to ensure developmental appropriateness and to achieve progression and coherence. The Grades 1-3 levels focus on fundamental movements, gymnastics and dance that develop students’ psychomotor skills, control and coordination and will lay the foundations for further learning of more advanced psychomotor skills, sports and games. The Grades 4-6 levels focus on further development and refinement of fundamental movements and psychomotor skills through a broad range of physical activities such as gymnastics, dance, and athletics. Students will also be introduced to basic concepts and skills involved in games. The students at the Secondary level will be given opportunities to develop their own physical fitness program and organize and officiate the intramural games aside from extending the knowledge and skills they gained from the different physical activities and games they have engaged in at the lower levels.
